First Media's Digital Transformation for Franklin College
Objectives
The primary objectives of the project were to create a modern, appealing website designed for young people, boost student applications through digital tools, and ensure the website was fully responsive for mobile devices.
Additionally, the college needed a user-friendly CMS for easy content management, seamless integration with First Media’s eProspectus software, effective social media support and marketing, and an engaging printed prospectus.
Approach
First Media approached the website redesign with a focus on modern aesthetics and user-centric design. The new website features visually engaging elements that resonate with young people, such as virtual tours, student testimonials, and course videos. The content strategy emphasised vibrant visuals and relatable narratives to captivate prospective students.
The website was built using the Umbraco CMS, chosen for its user-friendly interface, which allows college staff to update and manage content effortlessly. This CMS also offers flexibility and scalability for future enhancements.
A key component of the project was the integration with First Media’s eProspectus software, which provides a comprehensive digital prospectus and application solution.
This integration allows prospective students to access detailed course information and entry requirements and apply for courses through an interactive online platform.
Optimisation
Ensuring mobile optimisation was crucial, as the target audience predominantly accesses information via smartphones and tablets. The website was designed to be fully responsive, with quick load times on all devices, retaining the attention of young users.
First Media also provided extensive social media support and marketing. Targeted social media marketing campaigns were developed to attract prospective students and increase applications.
Finally, the printed prospectus design was developed to align with the website’s branding, ensuring a cohesive visual identity. The high-quality print materials provided comprehensive information about the college’s offerings, admissions process, and campus life.
The Results
The project resulted in a significant increase in student applications, attributed to the enhanced online presence and ease of access to information. The website helped Franklin College achieve Outstanding status from Ofsted.
