Guiding Lights of Brilliance
What we created together
Southdown is the largest not-for-profit care, support and housing provider in Sussex.
Their brilliant team have created the Southdown Beacon, which is their own psychologically-informed framework for how they will be ‘brilliant with people’ as they work together and with their clients and tenants.
Southdown asked us for something that is visually interesting while easy to use for all colleagues.
We used our bespoke development framework which allowed us to create made to measure interactions to achieve what the team were looking for.
Exploring each beam of the Beacon
Looking at each beam of the Beacon in turn, we use:
- Real-people videos of staff, volunteers, clients and tenants explaining the values of each beam
- Quotes from clients and tenants about the difference working in each way makes
- Examples of how learners can put each section of the Beacon into practice.
We also connect the learning experience to the real world by prompting learners to ask themselves key questions and take their notes along to their next supervision.
A slice of serenity
The peaceful and optimistic landscape illustration at the base of each page was a favourite with the client.
We felt that it perfectly captured how they want the Beacon to make people feel, and will be used to inspire the next modules we have on the cards with Southdown.
"We are working with First Media to develop a suite of 5 eLearning courses introducing our bespoke psychologically informed framework, ‘Southdown Beacon’, to our staff. It has been a pleasure to work with First Media on this project. In addition to having lovely people skills, they have quickly grasped the brief and what we are trying to achieve so that the wording and images they use, and design of the whole, is aligned with and reinforces Southdown Beacon. The process has felt collaborative, so they work with us and adapt what they do to get things right. They manage the project well at their end and turn work around quickly. The ‘Introduction’ course is out and looks great. Feedback from colleagues has been very positive, with some describing it has inspirational, reminding them of why they do the work they do, and very engaging." Jenny Spaull, Training Manager
